Silver Cup: Are You Scared To Die (Review)

Silver Cup: Are You Scared To Die (Review)

Perhaps a pandemic is a peculiar time to release a silvery single titled “Are You Scared to Die”. However, Silver Cups, the musical collaboration between siblings Hadley, Logan, and Campbell Nelson are able to deliver.

Silver Cup’s new single “Are You Scared to Die” unfolds with an ear-worming riff and bittersweet layered melodies. The track probes a connection between indie pop and alternative with R&B textures. Analogous with their previously released singles,  “Are You Scared to Die” holds a sense of playfulness that is juxtaposed with cynical tongue-in-cheek lyrics such as “Gates of Hell who’s this? Mr. Reaper, it's your guests. Doors down to the right. Hope you all have a real good night.” Despite tonal staticity in their discography, “Are You Scared to Die” embraces musical maturity in comparison to the band’s debut single “Sabbath”.

It is evident that Silver Cups carries a great deal of potential and is a valuable addition to Utah’s local music scene. The first week of royalties for “Are You Scared to Die” will be donated to Color of Change, an organization that champions solutions for inequality. Listen to  “Are You Scared to Die” on Spotify.
